This was my first project using paperclay, a more unfamiliar modeling medium to me than polymer clay. The pros of paperclay: easy cleanup, air dry, once dry you can moisten the surface and play with it more, or you can carve and sand it when dry. The cons: it shrinks as it dries – which can actually be beneficial if using a mold – and you must use a sealant afterwards or moisture will ruin it.

A set of clay tools makes carving the dry clay easier, but achieving fine details is beyond my skills at the moment. Investing in a small sanding and drilling tool, perhaps something like a variable speed Dremel, to get into those tiny spaces would be a good idea. I’ll have to “borrow” my Mum’s next time.
